Toronto Ukraina SA Victorious at Great Lakes Cup 2026 in Cleveland!

Toronto Ukraina SA men’s team won the Over 50 Division of the 28th annual Great Lakes Cup Soccer Tournament, held this year in in Cleveland, Ohio. The Ukraina SA team from Toronto defeated the Chicago Connection team 1-0 in the final on May 24, 2026.

Four teams competed in the Over-50 Division at the 2026 Great Lakes Cup: Pokrova Cleveland, Chicago Connection, Detroit Hoverla and SA Ukraina from Toronto. 

The round robin games were held on Saturday, May 23 at Nike Fields in Parma. Each team played 3 40 minute games with 7 players a side on a smaller field.

Ukraina SA first played Pokrova Cleveland and defeated them 3-2. In the second game Ukraina SA tied Chicago 3-3. In the third game SA Ukraina defeated Hoverla Detroit 2-1. Ukraina SA finished round-robin play with a record of 2 wins and 1 tie and thus qualified for the group final.

The final, between Chicago Connection and Ukraina SA, was held on Sunday, May 24, 9:30 a.m. at the soccer field of Pokrova Ukrainian Catholic Church in Parma. Oleh Danylevych scored early at the start of the first half for Ukraina SA, giving Ukraina SA a 1-0 lead. Ukraina SA successfully defended this lead for the rest of the game and won the game.

The Ukraina SA team consisted of: Vasyl Shkodzinskii (captain), Oleh Danylevych, Petro Bezruchko, Roman Partan, Vasyl Romanyshyn, Valeriy Komar, Andriy Koval, Volodymyr Dovzhytskij (goalie), Sviatoslav Marchuk, Mykola Vorko, Andriy Bajsa, Danylo Darewych, Serhiy Arabchuk.

The Great Lakes Cup Tournament is a tournament of Ukrainian soccer teams from the Great Lakes area of Canada and the USA. It is held in May of every year either over the Victoria Day weekend in Canada or the Memorial Day weekend in the USA. It is hosted every year by a different participating team in one of the cities of the Great Lake area – Cleveland, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago (and on one occasion Buffalo). The 2026 tournament was organized by the Nova soccer club from Cleveland.
